We will begin the Colonial America unit (Unit 5) with the first permanent colonies, their founders and their similarities/differences. We will then explore how the climate and environment of North America influenced the development of regions, what those regions are and characteristics of those regions. We will explore the economic and cultural differences between the regions, and look at how these differences led to regional differences throughout American history. After learning about the French and Indian War, we will look at the causes of the War for Independence, as well as the major battles and historical figures that influenced the outcome of the war.
Students should expect a quiz following the first colonies (week of 03/11/19), one following the Thirteen Colonies and Regions (week of 03/25) and one following the Causes of War (just before Spring Break). Students should continue to take notes during class, utilize their organizers and review their notes daily.
